Cary Moskovitz received a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University, and a Masters of Architecture from Virginia Tech. He served on the faculties of Virginia Tech, Westbrook College, and the University of New England, before joining the University Writing Program at Duke in 2001. His articles and essays related to the teaching of writing have appeared in such publications as The Chronicle of Higher Education, Science, College Composition and Communication, the Journal of College Science Teaching and the Journal of Nursing Education. He has served as a consultant on writing pedagogy and writing in the undergraduate curriculum for a number of U.S. colleges and universities.
Courses he has taught include Academic Writing; College Algebra; Engineering Mechanics; Introduction to American Architecture; Revolutions in Physics; Science, Technology and Society; and Teaching Writing in the Disciplines. His writing courses have taken up scientific controversies in areas such as diet and nutrition, sunscreen and cancer, and automobile safety. His current research interests include Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines, student writing in the undergraduate science curriculum, and new approaches to providing feedback to student writing—including audio (spoken, recorded) feedback techniques and the Duke Reader Project. In 2003, Dr. Moskovitz received the Duke University Award for Excellence in Teaching Writing. He lives in Chapel Hill with his spouse Lauren and children Max and Milo.
